"If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair." – Scott McKenzie (from the song San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair), which became an anthem of the Summer of Love)
What to Expect:
Lace up your walking shoes and let's take a tour of the legendary Haight-Ashbury. The tour is led by a local guide with tons of knowledge of the area. Here are a few of the highlights we might see.
- The Grateful Dead House – The former home of the legendary band during the late ‘60s.
- Janis Joplin’s House – Where the iconic rock singer lived and partied.
- Amoeba Music – A massive record store filled with vinyl treasures and music history.
- Piedmont Boutique – Funky clothing shop with a giant pair of fishnet-clad legs sticking out the window.
- Haight Street Murals – Psychedelic street art capturing the neighborhood’s counterculture spirit.
- Golden Gate Park Entrance – The starting point of countless hippie gatherings, including 1967’s Human Be-In.
- The Psychedelic Shop (former site) – The first-ever head shop, kickstarting the 1960s LSD culture.
- Ben & Jerry’s (formerly the Straight Theater) – Once a concert venue where The Doors and Jefferson Airplane performed.
