Does Urbit even solve a problem? Use cases in NFTs, dApps, and DeSci

Details

Building and maintaining commercial software has become so complicated that only corporations can do it. Urbit presents a vision for a different kind of future, but can it deliver?

We'll explore two areas where Urbit's architecture is opening up new possibilities:

  1. In the creation and support of tools and incentives for Decentralized Science (DeSci) and other independent research.
  2. In the design and implementation of self-hosted web apps (dApps) and distributed software development.

---

Urbit is a new kind of computer that you can own completely in ways that matter: networking, identity, & data.

Urbit is a purely functional computer and social network with thousands of users that are building new communities, software, DAOs, and culture. The network is a magnet for individualists with backgrounds in technology, art, literature, crypto, academia, and more.

This meetup is good for:

  • Software engineers interested in functional programming, distributed systems, kernel development, crypto, web3, and technology as a Schelling point
  • Creatives and artists that want a more authentic and direct relationship with their audience, control over their digital tools, and sovereignty from Big Tech companies.
  • Humans that feel like computers should do more than provide a steady drip of dopamine and distraction.

  • 6:00pm: Doors open
  • 6:30pm: Presentations & Q&A
