Space is limited to the first 100 people at the door, so please arrive on time. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided. The evening will go a little like this.
Jared Palmer (@jaredpalmer) will be your Master of Ceremonies for the evening. He'll introduce our speakers and make sure things are running smoothly.
Our first talk is by Jenn Creighton (@gurlcode) titled:
The how's and why's of flexible React components
Building React components is simple โ until it isn't. Real world constraints can lead to large components that "do it all". Or near identical components with one or two changes. So how do we create flexible components without sacrificing readability and scalability? Jenn shares how she re-architected components to handle multiple use cases and increase engineer happiness. She'll breakdown the technical concerns for each component, the patterns she considered using, what didn't work and what did.
Matthew Gerstman (@MatthewGerstman) will give our second talk of the evening titled:
Building a Typed and Code Split React App
Codesplitting is hard. Codesplitting with type checking is even harder. Building a strongly typed system around a library built on top of generics and indirection? Now that sounds impossible. But we did it at Dropbox, and Iโm here to show you how you can do it too. This talk will cover how we built a sane, code split application. Weโll talk about how we do this across our stack from our React views to our Redux store with practical tips you can take home. Weโll leverage Lazy, Suspense, and all the features of React, Redux, and TypeScript to build a powerful workflow.
Discussion tables
After our two speakers give their presentations we'll break out into discuss tables where the speakers can deep dive into their topics in an informal mingle about format. There are no scripts and no slides during the discuss tables. It's an opportunity for you to ask the speakers questions about their talk.
Or just hang out and meet people!
I hope you can make it. See you there!
