Getting Started with OpenImageIO

Dealing with various image file formats can be somewhat of a pain. Each format has it's own library API and it's own quirks. Wouldn't it be nicer if we had a single, consistent API for reading and writing image data regardless of file format? OpenImageIO is an open source library with an Apache 2.0 license that provides such an API.

OpenImageIO's mission statement is: "OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation via a format-agnostic API with a feature set, scalability, and robustness needed for feature film production."

This month, Richard Thomson will give us a tour of the OpenImageIO library and demonstrate reading and writing images using the library. We'll also discuss some of the limitations of the library.
