Intro to Data Modeling for Analytics - Nick Johnson

In this talk, I'll go over the importance of data modeling for the analytics use case, and how that differs from the software application's transactional database model. While I'll focus on the fundamental aspects of dimensional modeling (aka star schema) and how that is classically approached, I'll discuss some of the why's, the gotchas, and some newer approaches to address common use cases in our event driven world. I'll touch on some concepts from Data Vault modeling and how those can help improve the data experience for both engineers and data analysts to better solve problems that are possible with today's technological capabilities.
