Leveraging your database for good. - SLC.rb November 2018

A large contingent of Rails developers (and Ruby developers by extension) do not optimize their database performance. We don't take advantage of the many features that our databases provide for us. Instead we rely far too much on our ORM and riddle our applications with N+1 queries. Together we will explore some different advanced querying methods both in SQL and ActiveRecord. We will also explore other database features such as: views, indices, and different data types, and learn how to apply those features to our applications. Together we will learn how to make our applications far more performant just by using the tools that we already have.
