Monthly Meetup
Details
Hi Utah Bitcoiners, For December we'll have one of our regular open-topics roundtable discussion; plus, in celebration of the holidays we'll be doing a drawing for two copies of the new book just releases by esteemed Bitcoin expert, Andreas Antonopoulos: The Internet of Money. Andreas' book promoter contacted the organizers of the Utah Bitcoin group and offered us the two free copies of the book to giveaway to members! You can learn more about the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Internet-Money-Andreas-M-Antonopoulos-ebook/dp/B01L9WM0H8
As always, please feel free to post on the thread for this Meetup about any topic that you want to talk about (or just bring it to the meeting). In the meantime, here are a couple of current topics that could be interesting to discuss:
-
ZCash - A recently introduced cryptocurrency that's getting a buzz as it purports to offer "total payment confidentiality" (https://z.cash/)
-
Quantum computing and its potential threat to Bitcoin key encryption. Recently, articles emerged (like this one: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/quantum-computers-will-destroy-bitcoin-scientists-warn/ -- good discussion at the end of this article, BTW) in which top computer scientists are saying that once quantum computers become a reality in the 5-10 years (some say sooner) that because their computing capabilities will be orders of magnitude greater than conventional computers, they will completely undermine the cryptography surrounding Bitcoin’s public and private keys (not to mention everything else we depend on for encryption).
