PLUG: Exploring Dev Containers
Details
Development (dev) containers allow you to use a container as your full-featured development environment. You can contain all the necessary tools, applications, runtimes, libraries, tests, etc. (and their specific versions!) to work with a codebase. They can be hosted locally or remotely and provide a single place for cooperative development. They can even provide a sandboxed, protected environment for AI Agents to operate more safely and constrained than letting them loose on your main desktop/laptop. Visual Studio Code has a plugin to work with dev containers seamlessly, allowing you to gain the benefits without affecting how you work with your code.
The Provo Linux Users Group (https://plug.org) meets monthly to discuss Linux, Linux-related topics, and technologies of interest to Linux users. If you enjoy Linux, or would like to learn more, join us.
We will be in the Meeting Room 1 of the American Fork Library on the 2nd floor.
