This presentation is part of semester long creative coding series, a partnership among several universities - Flyer @ https://sites.google.com/view/ccoding

Through a series of case studies, this talk demonstrates how an artist and a programmer share their visions, communicate with each other and collaborate on visual music projects. The workflow involves concept development, visual motif study, technical research, interaction, and experiments. Finding the common vocabularies between artists and programmers is important, though a successful collaboration often requires understanding beyond the limitation of languages.

Rebecca Ruige Xu’s artwork and research interests include artistic data visualization, experimental animation, visual music, interactive installations, digital performance, and virtual reality. Her recent work appeared at Ars Electronica; SIGGRAPH & SIGGRAPH Asia Art Gallery; ISEA; IEEE VIS Arts Program; Museum of Contemporary Art, Italy; Los Angeles Center for Digital Art; CYNETart, Germany and Boston Cyberarts Festival, etc. Xu has worked professionally in the fields of computer animation, visual effects, digital imaging, and interactive design in China and the United States. She currently teaches computer art and animation in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University.

Sean Hongsheng Zhai is the CTO at AccuGPS, an IoT data analysis, and visualization company. He received a Master of Science from Syracuse University. He is an IEEE member and a research scholar at TRAC (Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse). He has prolonged interest in computer graphics and algorithmic art. His work has been exhibited in Ars Electronica, ISEA, SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, Boston Cyberarts Festival, and many other venues.
