Published in 1888 and set in the year 2000, our protagonist falls asleep in 1887 and wakes up in a future socialist utopia.

Bellamy's book sparked a wave of utopian writing (including William Morris's News from Nowhere) and intentional communities in the late 19th Century, and was influential in the garden city movement.
