UBC discuss Parable of the Sower

At our August book group meeting we will discuss Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler.

Set in 2024, where the world is being ravaged by climate change and the right wing president of the USA campaigns under the slogan 'Make America Great Again,' this is a discomforting read given it was published in 1993 and we seem to be living in its unhappy future. However, amongst it all, the young woman Lauren Olamina is writing the book of her own religion, Earthseed, and gathering a community around her to try to plot a better course for humanity.
