Cloud Architecture: Is migrating to cloud worth it & cloud software engineering

We're excited to announce our third meetup of 2024 in our Kramp Utrecht office!

This evening, we will dive into cloud architecture. First, Radek Kowalski will share Kramp's journey of migrating the biggest IBM Commerce cluster in Europe to Google Cloud Platform.
Next, Steffan Norberhuis will explain how to apply the same principles and standards for software architecture to create a maintainable Cloud infrastructure.

Let Radek take you through the decision process behind migrating the eCommerce of Kramp from the biggest IBM Commerce cluster in Europe to Google Cloud Platform. He will explain why Kramp decided to spin off a corporate startup to develop the application at first and then to again converge with the corporate.
You will hear about FinOps in GCP, its technical and organizational aspects.
Radek will tell you how not to manage cloud costs, what to watch out for and where the dot on the horizon is at Kramp.

Building in the Cloud can feel overwhelming for developers. It did for Steffan when he started as a backend developer. But he learned that if you treat it the same way you build software, it becomes much more approachable. Steffan will take you along in how he applied the same principles and standards for software architecture to create a maintainable Cloud infrastructure, using the TDD as if writing application software. Additionally, the more you invest in building with cloud-native components, the easier it is to solve challenges in your software architecture using the Cloud.
