At a glance

  • Hmm...Christmas and...what makes Christmas special?
  • The presents!
  • But I don't like surprises.
  • Ok, let's just reveal the most important ones and the rest will come as the event countdown goes on :-)

Of course, once again, our friends from JPoint will take care of our meat-up, by arranging pizzas and drinks for all of us!

As most of you already know, Willem Meints "owed" us a presentation, which in combination with our summer vacations and his new family member, kept us a bit far from our initial schedule. But there are good news: Willem is a father and he'll do the presentation on December 7!

In addition, there is no better way to say goodbye to 2016, than hosting as last speaker of the year, the same one that gave the very first talk in our JUG.
That is, Bert Jan Schrijver will talk about "Pipeline as code"!

Presentation Details

What Willem says about the presentation

Machine Learning to some is still very magical. The truth however is that this magic is actually much easier to use than you'd expect. Come and learn how you can use Apache Spark and Akka together to build a service that recommends items to users. In this session, I'm going to show you some of the bits that go into building a recommender system, how to actually implement one in Spark and finally how to integrate the recommender system into your application using Akka HTTP.

Who is Willem

Willem is a technical evangelist for Info Support, he writes and speaks about new technology and helps developers get started with new frameworks and tools on projects. When not at work he likes to photograph the varying dutch landscapes.

What Bert Jan says about the presentation

Pipeline as code: building Continuous Delivery pipelines with Jenkins 2.0Jenkins has grown to a de-facto standard tool for automation in software development. In 2016, the first major Jenkins release in years was delivered: Jenkins 2.0. The new version is a drop-in replacement that features three big changes: Pipeline as code, which allows you to describe your chain of automation in textual form and put it in version control Better out-of-the-box experience Revamped UI I'll talk about the upgrade from Jenkins 1.x and demo the new features in Jenkins 2.0. The session will focus on the new 'pipeline as code' feature. I’ll show how to set up continuous delivery pipelines and I’ll share lots of practical tips from my own experience. I’ll end with a sneak preview of the new Blue Ocean user experience that’s currently being worked on the Jenkins team.
