About us
UX for Change was launched on March 8th 2015, at the Talk UX Conference in Manchester, UK, and is the first organisation of its kind. UX for Change emerged from the founder, Sandra Gonzalez, original challenge of how to mobilise the UX design community to get involved with the 2013 UK legislation that focused on teaching children as young as five how to code, but with no plans on teaching them how to design human-centred experiences for the improvement of their community and their own lives.
The organisation has been active for a decade across the world, and its focus has widened to meet new challenges focused on supporting positive social and planetary impact, such as utilising technology to aid refugees, providing internet safety tools and techniques for gender-diverse children, and giving consumers powerful information about their carbon footprint, to name a few.
The projects and ways in which the organisation engages the UX community have continually evolved depending on the needs and context. Still, at the core, UX for Change has always been about creating meaningful connections. We are committed to connecting the purpose-driven sector with the people interested in learning and applying responsible design practices while promoting collaboration, critical thinking, accountability, and social impact.
There are many UX for Change chapters around the world in London in the United Kingdom, Barcelona in Spain, Sydney in Australia, New York, Central Florida, Miami, and Los Angeles in the United States.

An Exploration of Human Expression and Its Future
Rudolf Steiner House, 35 Park Road, London NW1 6XT ,, London, GBWhat makes us human, and what do we risk losing when AI begin to mirror our most intimate forms of expression?
As AI becomes woven into our everyday workflows, from vibe coding to documentation, it's easy to focus on efficiency. But what about the rest of our lives? This session invites you to slow down and turn your attention toward something deeper: the arts. Dancing, singing, drawing, making, not as hobbies, but as expressions of something fundamental about who we are and where we come from.
Whether you're excited about what AI can create, cautious about what it might erode, or somewhere in between, this conversation is for you. We're not here to reach consensus. We're here to share our views and think together.
What we'll explore
Inspired by the Centre for Humane Technology's report Preserving What Makes Us Deeply Human in the Age of AI, we'll use five pillars of our humanity as a lens for reflection:I. Our Human Relationships II. Our Cognitive Capacities III. Our Inner Worlds IV. Our Identities V. Our Work and Contributions
We'll explore questions around why we create. What role does art play in our lives, not just aesthetically, but psychologically, socially, and spiritually? And as AI enters these spaces, what questions should we be asking ourselves?
From reflection to practice
We won't leave it abstract. Towards the end of the session, we'll bring the conversation back to our work as UX Designers and Researchers, exploring how these reflections can meaningfully shape the way we design, research, and lead.***
🎓 A moment of celebration
We'll close the evening by celebrating the nine fellows who have completed the third Responsible Design for Change Fellowship cohort. Their dedication to advancing social impact at the East London Waterworks Park, while deepening their practice in regenerative design and leadership, is worth sharing with our UX for Change community.***
