Redesign how Immigrants and Advocates Connect on immigrationlawhelp.org

Details

Ready to use your design and creative skills to make lasting social impact and improve legal access and outcomes for immigrants? Then we’ve got the perfect challenge for you!

What’s UX for Change?

UX for Change is a global platform that connects non-profit organizations with the UX community to raise awareness of how the discipline of User Experience Design can contribute to the goals of any organization.

Started in London four years ago, our newest chapter in New York City is on a mission to bring talented creative professionals together to make a difference.

The way we lead our events is simple. We identify a non-profit with a challenge that we believe can be addressed with UX artifacts or methodologies and we then organize an event and find an inspiring facilitator to guide us through solving the challenge.

During the event, attendees collaborate in teams, brainstorm, prototype their solutions and then present their idea for feedback from the client non-profit organization. Our goal is to create a win-win situation for both the UX community as well as the non-profit organization and provide a conduit for ongoing volunteer opportunities for design professionals who wish the support the non-profit following the event.

Client non-profit: Immigration Advocates Network

For our upcoming event, we’re proud to support The Immigration Advocates Network (IAN), (https://www.immigrationadvocates.org/), IAN is dedicated to expanding access to immigration legal resources and information through collaboration and technology. IAN was created in 2007 by leading immigrants' rights organizations, to increase access to justice for low-income immigrants and strengthen the capacity of organizations serving them.

One of their primary platforms, Immigration Law Help (www.immigrationlawhelp.org), strives to connect individuals with legal resources and advocates based on based on specific parameters such as detention centers served, type of immigration legal services, zip code, etc.

While ImmigrationLawHelp.Org maintains the only national directory of its kind, there are opportunities to improve the current user experience and functionality. The vision is to provide a marketplace to connect users with legal providers leveraging dynamic content based on user-specific parameters.

Our Design Challenge: How might immigrants with diverse educational backgrounds and language skills access legal assistance quickly and intuitively through immigrationlawhelp.org?

Facilitated by the team at The SIX, an innovation and strategy consultancy, we’ll use techniques from Google Design Sprints, to ideate and prototype an inspirational brand identity and user experience for the immigrationlawhelp.org website.
