“From designers to builders: How we crafted an AI-first product design process from the ground up”
by Niki Forecast, Head of Design at Legl
Legl is a compliance and payments platform for law firms. Over the past year, we’ve transformed our product design process to be truly AI-first - migrating our Figma design system into code and building a high-fidelity replica of our platform for prototyping. The shift has reshaped how we work: engineers now design, designers ship code, ideas are validated faster in a production-like environment, and our prototype is set to become deployable infrastructure within the main codebase.
Key takeaways:
- The practicalities of migrating a design system into code with AI
- How AI can break down the barriers to design and to engineering
- How automated testing has streamlined our design review process
- Why designing in a production-like environment accelerates validation
- How a great prototype doesn’t just inform the product - it can become the product
