Augmented Reality is everywhere – but what’s really behind the buzz?
AR has seen many new products in recent years, but few have truly succeeded. So, what is the real potential of AR? When is it useful, and what should designers keep in mind?
In this talk, Katja & David from FHNW will give a practical introduction to spatial computing and show how it goes beyond AR to create meaningful, immersive experiences.
Expect real-life examples, lessons learned (including what didn’t work), and guidance on designing for 3D spaces versus 2D screens.
Interactive elements and open discussion included – perfect for anyone curious about designing for immersive environments.
About the speakers
Katja is a Research Associate at FHNW, focusing on UX Research and UX Strategy, holding a Master’s degree in Computer Science. She bridges technical innovation with user-centered design to create meaningful experiences in emerging technologies. During her Master's degree, she specialised in User Experience Design and Evaluation in Spatial Computing, exploring how digital content can be integrated into physical environments. Katja has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications, including several presented at international conferences and will start her PhD in September.David is a Research Associate at FHNW with a Master's in UX Design and experience in software engineering for web and native application development. He leads UX initiatives on EU Horizon projects, combining technical implementation with user research and interface design. His Master's thesis applied user-centered design and usability evaluation to AR architectural planning with Apple Vision Pro, showing that users could better understand 3D spaces when using AR compared to traditional 2D plans.
