How Psychologists Contribute to Autonomous Driving Development

Autonomous Driving is seen as the next big mobility breakthrough. However, building effective, enjoyable and safe autonomous vehicles seems to be a lot harder than some CEOs might want you to believe (looking at you Elon). One of the reasons is that an autonomous vehicle must be built in a way that humans understand and trust. Our guest speaker, Nikolai, carried out a field study with 100 drivers to explore how they use currently available driving automation. He will provide insights into how drivers initially struggle to understand the automation, but then learn to trust it. After this presentation, you can join or just listen to a discussion about how a degree in psychology prepares you for a career in UX or Human Factors Research.

About our speaker:
Nikolai graduated with a masters degree in Psychology from the University of Graz and currently works as a Human Factors Researcher at the Virtual Vehicle Research Center in Graz, Austria. He is involved in several national and international research projects that address automated driving and artificial intelligence.
