The time you have with study participants is precious and short, so it is up to study moderators to maximize the amount of data collected during the interview.

A key part of this is how the moderator interacts with study participants to keep them comfortable and talking about useful topics.

This talk will provide UX Practitioners with tips on:

  • Extracting high-quality data from participants
  • Detail how you can leverage your “Psychologist Voice” to put participants at ease and keep them talking about the topic at hand

About Dan Berlin
Dan Berlin is the Founder and Principal at Watch City Research, a user experience research consultancy based in Waltham, MA. After spending ten years leading and building the research team at Mad*Pow, Dan struck out on his own and started the consultancy.

Since 2021, he has conducted usability studies, user interviews, tree studies, and other types of meaningful research for clients across myriad industries.

Dan edited the O’Reilly Media book “97 Things Every UX Practitioner Should Know,” hosted an accompanying podcast - 97 Things, and served on the UXPA Boston Board of Directors for eight years. He is currently in his second year of the Bentley University Executive PhD program where he plans on focusing his dissertation on how Electronic Health Record workflows impact patient outcomes.
