For four days in February, people all over the world will be taking part in the Great Backyard Bird Count. Begun in 1998, the GBBC's purpose is to engage people of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations.

Whether you are a beginning bird watcher or an expert, you are welcome to join Vince Smith, chairperson of VFAS's Conservation and Community Science Committee, for this special event and become part of this extraordinary community science project.

No prior knowledge of birds or birding is necessary to attend - in fact, this outing is best suited for beginning birdwatchers or those new to counting birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count. Kids are definitely welcome to participate too (we do ask that children under 18 be accompanied by an adult). Much of this outing takes place along a paved ADA-accessible trail which easily accommodates strollers and wheelchairs.

Bring binoculars if you have them. The leader will keep a list of birds observed during the outing which will be shared with attendees. The list will also be posted to the Valley Forge Audubon Society website where all participants will be able to access it.

A portable restroom is available on site.
