Kestrel Banding and Barn Owl Encounter

Details
Valley Forge Audubon Society has been proud to support Charlestown Township as they have converted former agricultural fields at the township-owned Brightside Farm Park into a Grassland Bird Sanctuary, as grassland habitats and the birds that depend upon them for survival are recognized as some of the most imperiled systems in North America. Join Charlestown Township in celebrating the ongoing success of this "if you build it, they will come" project with a public program that highlights two of the most iconic grassland-dependent bird species: the American Kestrel and the Barn Owl.
What to expect:
- Live kestrel banding demonstration by the Pennsylvania Game Commission
- Ambassador barn owl presentation by Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
- Raptor ecology talk
- Family-friendly learning
This is a free public event - no registration is required. The program will run rain or shine.
Come early and bring a picnic blanket or folding chair and settle in for a relaxed afternoon surrounded by nature and community.
Park in the grass by the community gardens. Please note that there are no public restrooms available on site.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary will be selling kestrel boxes during the event for $75 each (cash only)
