Winter is the time to look for waterfowl, gulls, and winter passerines such as horned larks and snow buntings on the waters and shores of Green Lane Reservoir, a place known for attracting interesting and unusual birds. Join expert guides Andrew and Eddie Dolan on an exploration of this expansive area to see what we might find.

We will travel by car to three (or more) different hotspots around the three bodies of water that comprise this Audubon Important Bird Area: Green Lane Reservoir (814 acres), Deep Creek Lake (38 acres) and Knight Lake (26 acres). Travel times between the stops range from 5 to 9 minutes.

At the end of the trip those who are interested can gather with the leaders at the Perkiomen Valley Brewery (101 Walnut Street, Green Lane, PA 18054) which is just a 3-minute drive from where the trip began.

There will be minimal walking on this trip as much of the time will be spent at different observation points where we will scan the waters and shoreline of the park with our binoculars and spotting scopes. Carpooling will be encouraged for those who are comfortable doing so as some of the parking areas around the lake are small and can be crowded.

We will meet at the Morrow Pavilion parking lot (2150 Green Lane Rd, 18054) by the tennis courts. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. Dress warmly - expect the breeze off the water to be quite blustery and cold. There are restroom facilities available at two or more of the stops including the first one.
