Changing Seasons, Changing Birds at Welkinweir
Details
March is the time of the year when winter begins to loosen its grip and spring begins to stir. Welkinweir’s varied habitats make the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, observant bird walk where we will tune in to changing bird behavior, fresh birdsong, and the subtle cues that mark the turning of the season.
What you’ll enjoy:
- A unique mix of birds including winter holdouts and early migrants
- Insights into seasonal bird behavior and identification from knowledgeable Valley Forge Audubon Society guides
- A welcoming atmosphere for all experience levels and ages (children must be accompanied by an adult)
- A 224-acre preserve open only to our group on this weekend day, when the grounds are closed to the public
Bring binoculars if you have them and wear sturdy shoes with good tread as all the footpaths are unpaved and uneven and can be muddy; there is also one steep hill to navigate.
This outing will cover a little over a mile and will last 2-3 hours. A restroom is available on site.
