(CANCELED) Native Trees and Birding Tour: Harriet Wetherill Park
Details
Due to the inclement weather predicted for Saturday, we are canceling this event. We hope to reschedule in the Fall.
Native plant/birding outings are increasingly popular, allowing for an exploration of the essential and logical link between birds and native plants. Harriet Wetherill Park is noteworthy for the native plant improvements that park supporters have added and maintain. Our guide for this outing, Andrew Conboy, is a local ISA-certified arborist and urban forester and has been one of the leaders of this important effort. Come join him and volunteer birding guides from the Valley Forge Audubon Society to learn about native trees, shrubs, and other native plants as well as the birds that need them.
We will take about 2 hours to travel along a 1+ mile route of paved and natural paths, although you may leave at any time. All levels of interest and experience as well as all age groups are welcome to join us (although children must be accompanied by an adult.) Bring binoculars if you have them; the guides will have several pairs to lend.
There are accessible restroom facilities on site.
For more information on native trees and shrubs and their importance to birds, please watch a recording of Andrew Conboy's virtual presentation "Supporting Healthy Bird Populations With Native Trees and Shrubs" here: Virtual Presentations - Valley Forge Audubon Society
Please note: this park has two entrances. Be sure to use the main entrance off of Butler Pike.
