Backway to Crown King
Details
It’s time to step up the difficulty level of our trails by a notch or two. Today’s Adventure will take us to one of the most famous OHV trails in Arizona; Backway to Crown King. People come from all over the country to experience this fun and scenic trail. It also happens to be on the Badge of Honor trail list as well!
I would rate this trail somewhere between high intermediate and low difficult. Many trail sections consist of narrow shelf road. Passing oncoming vehicles is a pain and the trail is very busy (that’s why we’re doing Sunday instead of Saturday). The good news is that nearly all obstacles have bypasses.
There are two waterfall rocks towards the end. The first one is tall but easily passable using the right line. The second one is a non-issue for most Jeeps but a major PITA for Gladiators. I get hung up on it even with 37-inch tires and nearly a 5-inch lift without a spotter. With proper spotting though, we should be able to get everyone through.
Assuming we don’t have to wait for the people in front of us and everyone makes it across without breakdowns, we should be done with the trail around 3:00sh. Bring lunch and plenty of drinks! We’ll also stop and grab a drink or two at the local bar in Crown King before heading out.
The video below shows one of the local Facebook clubs conquering the trail a few weeks ago. Numerous Gladiators in the group as well.
