Harquahala Peak & Observatory

Details
Let’s escape the Valley oven for a few hours and conquer Harquahala Peak Trail in Arizona! This historic and scenic trail climbs to over 5,600 feet, offering stunning desert views, technical switchbacks, and a rewarding summit featuring the old Smithsonian solar observatory. Whether you're a seasoned trail veteran or looking for a challenging and fun ride on a Sunday afternoon, this Adventure promises excitement, camaraderie, and breathtaking panoramas. Pack your gear, bring your camera, and get ready for a day of adventure on one of Arizona’s most scenic offroad trails!
This used to be an easy trail last time I ran it about 5 years ago. It looks like the erosion has taken its toll and it has now been upgraded to Intermediate. Towards the top it gets a bit rocky, narrow and steep but nothing that your Jeep can’t handle. The trail is 10 miles long to the top and then we come back down 10 miles the same way.
As always, please arrive with a full tank of gas at the designated meeting spot and be ready for a prompt departure. If you’re running late, please let us know by posting or messaging in the Meetup App. If your plans change and you’re unable to attend, please promptly remove yourself from the event so that others on the standby list can take your place.
We will Meet at the Harquahala Mountain Staging Area, see link below:
