What we’re about
(Formerly known as "The Vancouver Island Chapter of the International
Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS))
In this group, we discuss near-death experiences (NDE) and related topics.
What are NDEs?
NDEs are intensely vivid and often life-transforming experiences, many of which occur under extreme physiological conditions such as trauma, ceasing of brain activity, deep general anesthesia or cardiac arrest in which no awareness or sensory experiences should be possible according to the prevailing views in neuroscience.*
The experience is often profoundly positive, but not always, and described as the most significant experience of one’s life. NDEs occur to people of all ages, including children, and across all religious and racial boundaries.
Where we meet
This group meets in Victoria, British Columbia, but is open to experiencers and non-experiencers alike. We aim to meet once a month, usually on Wednesdays mid-month, and currently at the NeighborSpace at 709/11 Douglas Street.
Aims and scope
Our aim is to support experiencers in their process of integration, to provide a safe and nonjudgmental forum for sharing their stories, and to discuss topics related to NDEs. If you would like to share your NDE story, please contact us directly to arrange.
It will also support non-experiencers who wish to glean the wisdom from NDEs as inspiration and solace for living and dying well.
