It’s Saturday night. You’ve just finished a long week at work or school. Many concerts start a bit later – at around 8 PM. That can make for a fairly late evening!

At Müzewest, we have partnered with Tom Lee Music to present something new here in Vancouver. The Rush Hour Series. Come for a shorter concert right after work or school at 6 PM and then you have time to grab a nice dinner with friends – or (let’s face it) head home to relax and rewatch Game of Thrones! We've brought in some popular local classical musicians to help us enjoy a summer evening with the gorgeous sounds of cello and piano!

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

CHRISTOPHER KNOPP, piano

Chris Knopp took his first piano lesson at age 8. Music was his hobby throughout grade school, and he received excellent marks in examinations for both piano and cello. During his final year at high school, he realized that he wanted to pursue music as a career. After obtaining his A.R.C.T. in Piano Performance, he studied with Jane Hayes at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, receiving various scholarships including the Katherine Cummins Endowed Scholarship (full-ride). He is currently studying with Stéphane Lemelin at McGill’s Schulich School of Music in Montreal, where he has also won several scholarships.

Chris has appeared as a soloist and collaborator for concert series including L’Oasis Musicale, Tom Lee Music and MuzeWest Concerts. He also self-produces concerts regularly, often alongside artists such as Lucas van Lierop, Elisabeth Boudreault, Christopher Gaudreault, Ben Goheen and Christopher Savage. He has worked with numerous orchestras, choirs and chamber groups throughout the Vancouver and Montreal areas.

Chris has taught music privately since 2012, and co-founded St. George’s children’s choir in 2015.

BEN GOHEEN, cello

Ben Goheen holds his MMus in cello performance from UBC, where he studied with Eric Wilson. Since moving from Ontario in 2005, he has enjoyed performing with several symphonies and ensembles, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra, and Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra. As an active chamber musician, he loves collaborating with new players and performing with a variety of established ensembles throughout the Lower Mainland, including Langley Community Music School's resident Rose Gellert String Quartet and the Somerset Trio. In addition to performing, Ben also conducts Surrey Youth Orchestra's Symphonic Strings and enjoys a full schedule of cello students throughout the week. When he's not teaching or performing, he loves spending time with his wife and three kids.
