The Making of Voxel Bridge: A Multidimensional Art Experience

Our first meetup of 2022! You're not seeing things, we had to reschedule this event due to technical issues. Third time's a charm!

On January 25th, we'll be joined by special guest, Colombian artist Jessica Angel, as she and her team show us how they created the fascinating public art installation and digital experience known as "Voxel Bridge".

What is "Voxel Bridge"? For those who don't live in Vancouver or may have missed the Vancouver Biennale this past summer, Voxel Bridge can best be described as a contemporary art installation that takes place in three worlds at once: physically under the Cambie Bridge, in Augmented Reality via the app, and in the live blockchain.

We'll learn how they created "twenty different interactive animations throughout the AR experience," and how they used "live blockchain data as a creative tool to create a direct real-time projection of the blockchain."

Who knew the blockchain could be visualized in such a compelling way?

About the artist: "Jessica Angel is an alumna of the Vancouver Biennale’s Artist Residency Program in 2018 and 2019. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Angel has taken an early leading role in the art and blockchain movement, inspiring, advocating, and educating artists, developers, and technology enthusiasts to embrace leading-edge blockchain technologies to create and fund ambitious art projects. Jessica curated #ArtProject2020, a 5-day virtual conference presented through the Vancouver Biennale in the context of this project that gathered the leading minds in the NFT space."

After the presentation we'll open up the discussion to all the attendees. We'll explore topics related to the blockchain, but also the role of technology in site specific installations and how they can be experienced in simultaneous realities at once.
