๐ The Three-Body Problem [Book Club Discussion]
Details
๐ We're getting together to talk about Cixin Liu's The Three-Body Problem.
When humans disappoint us, the idea of an outside solution can start to feel like hope. But losing trust in our own world tells us very little about whether another power would treat us better. Relief from familiar failures can make unfamiliar intentions seem less threatening, especially when the alternative is continuing to live with people we no longer believe in. What would justify that leap of trust, and how much of it might simply be the wish for someone else to take responsibility?
The plan
Please read the complete first novel, The Three-Body Problem, beforehand: https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781466853447/thethreebodyproblem/
- How does the novel connect private disappointment with choices that affect everyone?
- What makes humanity seem worth defending despite its failures?
- How does the book make the same possibility feel hopeful to one person and threatening to another?
