Prioritize Product Development Speed

Details
Talk Synopsis
There is often a heavy focus on the “ilities” of architecture (e.g. scalability, maintainability, reliability) and not enough focus on a vital trait of product development: development speed. A high speed of development reduces planning overhead, inspires and engages staff, and keeps your business competitive. It also has a secondary benefit on architecture, since it emphasizes evolutionary designs, rather than replacement designs, and it encourages using tech that are high ROI on day one, rather than “ideal” tools that “may” be needed in the future. In this talk, I want to discuss how an emphasis on development speed allows you to start speedy and remain speedy as your business grows, and how it sets the right mindset and culture that designing for an ideal end-state does not.
