Join us for a full-day 16k walking adventure through the charming beauty of Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park (off the coast of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island). Besides the expansive ocean and coastal mountain vistas, the island offers plenty of opportunities for wildlife watching. If we are lucky, we might even be able to spot one of the most elusive residents of the island, the legendary albino/spirit racoon!🦝🤩🙏

➡️MEET at 7:55am by the ticket booth at the Horseshoe ferry terminal (not to be confused with Tsawwassen ferry terminal)
➡️We'll take a ferry from West Vancouver to Nanaimo and then a water taxi from downtown Nanaimo to Newcastle Island
➡️Distance: ~16 km
➡️Elevation gain: minimal
➡️Difficulty: easy, however, all participants must be able to walk 16+ km without any health issues
➡️Pace: moderate with photo/rest stops and lunch
➡️Getting there: take 257 bus from downtown to Horseshoe ferry terminal or
➡️Park at the ferry terminal for 19.25+tax/car in the long-term lot
➡️Ferry ticket to Nanaimo: 45.10 round trip/person
➡️Water taxi to Newcastle Island: $15 round trip/person
➡️No dogs on this trip please

SCHEDULE
7:55am Meet at the Horseshoe Ferry Terminal by the ticket office. We'll walk onto the ferry - no car is needed.
8:35am Ferry departs to Vancouver Island (Nanaimo)
10:17am Arrive to Nanaimo. Walk 3.6 km along the seaside path to the water taxi dock in downtown Nanaimo
12:00pm Take the water taxi to Saysutshun/Newcastle Island
12:10-4:15pm Walk the island's perimeter path (~10k). Enjoy lunch at one of the scenic viewpoints, optional swim in the ocean.
4:15pm Take the water taxi back to Nanaimo. Walk 3.6 km along the seaside path back to Nanaimo ferry terminal.
6:20pm Take the ferry back to Vancouver
8:02pm Arrive back to Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal)

What to BRING
*Food and water for the WHOLE day
*Non slip comfortable footwear for walking/light hiking. No flip flops, tennis shoes, fashion shoes etc.
*Layered clothing with at least one warm layer
*Swimsuit and towel if you want to go for a swim in the ocean
*Protection from the sun, wind, rain and bugs
*Walking poles if you use them
*Gas and parking money for your driver if you are getting a ride to the ferry terminal
*A smile and love of adventure
