FULLMOON NIGHT HIKE

Details

Quarry Rock FULLMOON Night Hike SingSong. Join a hike just above Quarry Rock in North Van to celebrate the Equinox and Harvest Full Moon. Bring an instrument or a song or a good set of vocal chords. Meet outside the A&W at Parkgate Mall parking lot at 7pm Thursday October 1. Parkgate mall is at intersection of mt seymour drive and mt seymour parkway. Its only a three km drive (via caravan) from here to our secret trailead at cove forest. We will hike through the largest remaining grove of ancient heritage trees in North Vancouver (estimated at over 600 years old), as honored guests of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and then drop down to a super viewpoint just above Quarry Rock to watch the moonrise where we will smudge with cedar. Its a steep 3km roundtrip hike on sketchy trails in the dark. Guests must be extremely fit and sure of foot. Bring a good flashlight, sturdy boots, warm clothes, a thermos of tea, and something to share like a poem, a song, or a quote about the fall, the moon, the equinox, whatever! The weather forecast is fabulous. This moon typically rises more in line with the Equinox but this year its late, meaning we get two full moons in October. October 31 will be the blue moon, the smallest full moon of the year. Our harvest moon rises at 7:15 pm, so we will catch it just as it rises over the coast mountains, from a marvelous viewpoint. We will sit on the rocks for a bit and chat, read, play music, and sing a song. We will be back at the cars at the trailhead by 9:30pm.
