BEAVER FULLMOON NIGHT HIKE

Details

Beaver Full Moon Night Hike Sunday November 30, 4 – 6pm.
The full moonrise is at 4:37 pm. Our goal is to be on Quarry Rock at 5:15 pm so we can watch the moon rise over the coast mountains. The weather forecast is fabulous.
The hike is led by https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Global-Warming-and-Climate-Change-Action-Team/
Last minute details will be posted on the above noted meetup site, so plan to visit this page before the hike
We will meet in front of the A&W at Parkgate Mall just before 4, and depart at 4:05. The mall is at the intersection of Mt Seymour Parkway and Mt Seymour Road, in North Vancouver. We will caravan to the trailhead 3 km away. The hike is 5km round trip.
The trail is only a 5 minute drive from the A&W. We will hike down to Quarry Rock from above, through the COVE FOREST, a magical grove of old growth ancient fir trees, the largest such grove left in the north shore mountains. The trail is steep and primitive, hand built by local residents, and there is no map. So bring waterproof hiking boots and warm waterproof clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring rain gear just in case. Bring a headlamp or flashlight. Don’t rely on your phone light, its not bright enough to navigate in the forest in the dark. The hike is 5km round trip.
Bring a thermos of tea to enjoy as we sit on Quarry Rock and watch the moonrise. I will bring song sheets so we can have a little singalong (Bob Marley, Dylan etc). Feel free to do the same! If you have a little Bluetooth speaker, bring it too help with the singalong. Expect the temperature in the forest to be just above freezing.
The Beaver moon, also known as the scratching, digging, frost moon was named by Indigenous / Aboriginal people, to mark the time of year when animals prepare for the winter by foraging for seeds and nuts in the leaves, and when beavers prepare winter dams.
Feel free to bring a friend or two!
