What we’re about

🌸 Koheikai LT
— Japanese × English Language Exchange & Community —
🏙️ About Us
Koheikai LT is a friendly, small-community language exchange group that connects people through English and Japanese conversation.
Whether you’re new to Vancouver from Japan or a local who loves Japanese culture, this is a place to share languages, learn from each other, and build genuine friendships — not just practice vocabulary.
---
💬 What Makes Us Different
There are many language exchanges in Vancouver, but Koheikai LT is community-run, not random.
Our organizers are connected to the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, the largest Japanese Canadian community organization in BC.
This means we don’t just exchange language — we also share cultural events, volunteer opportunities, and local community connections.
All organizers are bilingual (Japanese and English) and are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, so you’ll always have friendly staff who can support you in either language.
---
🧋 Our Atmosphere
Our events are small, casual, and respectful — the perfect balance between social and structured.
We meet in comfortable cafés or community spaces where everyone can relax and talk freely.
What to expect:
🗣️ One-on-one or small-group conversations in both English and Japanese
🎯 Easy conversation topics and language games for all levels
☕ A cozy, welcoming environment with organizers always present
All language levels are welcome — from complete beginners to fluent speakers.
You don’t need to “study”; just come, talk, and enjoy connecting with new people.
---
💖 Safety & Respect
We take community safety seriously.
Our organizers are always present during the entire event, and all participants must follow our respectful behavior policy.
This is a friendly community space, not a dating event.
We want everyone — especially women — to feel 100% comfortable and included.
---
👥 Who Joins
Our members include:
Local Vancouverites interested in Japanese language & culture
Japanese students and working holiday participants
Bilinguals and international-minded people who enjoy meeting new friends
Most attendees are in their 20s and 30s, and we keep each event small and welcoming — usually held once or twice a month.
