What we’re about

Ahoy future sailors. I am offering 2 levels of courses sailing on a Aloha 30 moored in False Creek.
I have been sailing since 1984 on a wide range of boats, here, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and across the Indian Ocean to South Africa. I am a keen long-time racer in one-design and PHRF classes.
I am certified by CRYA and NauticEd, and am registered with Transport Canada for Competent Crew and Day Sailor. More recently I achieved Captain's rank with NauticEd, a US based organization which can provide SLC licenses accepted in Europe and the Caribbean.

We will be teaching using the paper based CRYA course materials, descriptions can be found at https://crya.org/sailing-certifications-1
Also using the digital on-line NauticEd courses.

And, to get 2 free courses and a digital log book check this out.

In addition to these certifications we will also offer a one day Introduction to Coastal Cruising and Introduction to Sailing, combined.  This will come with a log book where you can add additional certifications as you progress.  Cost $100 plus $20 for the optional log book. 3 or 4 students required.

Competent Crew would be at least 20 hours on the water and Day Skipper a minimum of 20 hours.  It is strongly recommended that you learn the terminology before getting on the water as on-board communication will be in boat-speak.
With 3 or 4 students the cost is $120 per hour for the boat and skipper, or $30 to $40 per hour per person.
If you take the Introduction course we will deduct $100 from your certification costs.
Competent Crew manual $40
Day Skipper manual $30
Coastal Skipper manual $32
Coastal Navigation manual $45

NauticEd courses are on-line, here is a link.
In addition to the above you will eventually need a Pleasure Craft Operator Card and a Restricted Operators Certificate for VHS radio transmissions, as it is illegal to operate the radio without one, although in emergencies this is obviously overlooked.  You do not need these prior to taking the courses.
Both of these are available from https://www.cps-ecp.ca/
Please let me know any questions or thoughts you may have.
Best regards and see you soon.
Cheers
Peter
