Insights into realtor.com Technology and Quality practices

Details

Join us for our upcoming realtor.com technology meet-up. Our teams will share some of our latest technology work, insights and learnings. We are looking forward to see you and network with our colleagues from our local tech community, whether you are an engineer, a test engineer, product leader, manager or any other role. Please come and join us to the following four presentations:

Practical REST
Robb Lovell, Distinguished Architect

REST is actually an architectural design pattern that constrains or limits how a system is constructed. Those constraints provide emergent properties that accomplish architectural goals or features such as scalability, modifiability, performance, simplicity, visibility, portability, and reliability. Here, we explore REST constraints and emergent phenomenon and how to not go overboard and practically achieve REST’s benefits

Data driven API tests in the world of NodeJS
Jeff Yu & James Coles Nash, Principal Test Automation Engineers

Creating data driven API tests using NodeJS with mocha + chai-http. Setting up framework to run against multiple environments using grunt replace.

GraphQL @ realtor.com
Brian Kulyk, Principal Software Engineer

GraphQL is a data query language developed internally by Facebook in 2012 before being publicly released in 2015. It provides an alternative to REST and ad-hoc webservice architectures. A look at our journey into adopting GraphQL at move: What we're using GraphQL for and, why we decided to use a schema first approach. What goes into GraphQL and what doesn't. GraphQL at scale: 100,000 requests/min and more.

Using Kibana to provide visual analysis of test data
Kevin Yau, Principal Software Engineer

Kibana is a data visualization plugin which is pre-package with AWS Elasticsearch. When trying to analyze large sets of test results data in a short period of time with minimal setup and maintenance it's an invaluable tool.

We are excited to share some of our best practices, learnings and challenges. And we are equally excited to hear your experience. There will be ample time to network and discuss. Here is a rough outline:
