Group outing - we’ll watch the parade, then walk over to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden.

Event Detail :

Vancouver does Lunar New Year properly, loud drums, lion dances, packed sidewalks, and that “the city is actually alive” feeling.
This Sunday we’re doing a simple plan: meet in Central Library (Its entrance on 2nd floor), walk to chinatown, watch the parade, then walk to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden nearby for a calmer reset after the chaos.
Come solo or bring a friend - this is an easy “show up and be part of something” kind of meetup.
And yes: it’ll be busy. That’s the point :)

What we’ll explore (aka what we’ll be talking about while we walk)

  • Tradition in a modern city: what makes something feel “alive” instead of a museum performance?
  • The Chinatown question: what do you think it means for Vancouver to keep (or lose) cultural neighborhoods like this?
  • After the noise: why do gardens feel like medicine? What changes in your brain when you go from parade → stillness?
  • Your own ritual: do you have any yearly traditions that actually make time feel meaningful?

How we’ll do it

  • Meet at Chinatown and grab a viewing spot for the parade
  • Watch the parade + lion dances (we’ll pick a spot and stay together)
  • After we’ve had our fill, we’ll walk to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden (a few minutes away)

When and where

  • 📅 Sunday, Feb 22, 2026
  • 🕚 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • 📍 Meet-up spot: Vancouver Central library
  • Parade starts at 11:00 AM - aim to be at the library at 10:30 AM and we will then walk to the Event location.

Cap 12–15 + waitlist
Keeping it small so we can actually find each other in a crowd.

Optional notes

  • Bring: comfy shoes, layers, water. (It can be loud - earplugs if you’re sensitive.)
  • Garden entry usually requires a ticket/admission, but It is free on the day of the event!
  • If the parade route/timing shifts, I’ll update this event page with the new details.
