πŸš€πŸŒŒ Project Hail Mary - most modern sci-fi is dead. This one might not be.

Group movie outing - optional post-film chat.

Short summary
Most modern movies are shit.
Or at least dead in the same expensive way: giant screen, fake stakes, polished noise, nothing to carry home after.
Every so often one shows up that seems to have an actual brain, an actual pulse, and some real curiosity in it. Project Hail Mary looks like one of the rare recent studio sci-fi movies that might actually deserve an IMAX screen and a room full of adults paying attention.
This is exactly the kind of movie I like programming: big enough to be fun, smart enough that people might actually want to argue about it after.

A few questions already sitting in my head
β€œDid it actually earn that feeling of wonder, or was it just selling wonder back to us?”
β€œWas the science alive, or just respectable-looking set dressing?”
β€œWhat part felt genuinely human once you stripped away the mission plot?”
β€œWhen was the last time a big modern movie left you with anything worth carrying home?”

How the evening will go
We’ll meet a little before the screening at Scotiabank, head in together, and then whoever wants can keep the night going nearby after for a quick drink / tea and the immediate post-movie verdict.
Please buy your own ticket for the 6:30 PM IMAX Laser Projection screening after you RSVP.
If you read the book, great. Just don’t turn the pre-movie meetup into an adaptation grievance seminar.
