🎨✨ The Show at Emily Carr - what are Vancouver’s new artists making?
Gallery outing - graduating student exhibition / optional chat after.

Short summary
Student art shows are usually more interesting than people expect.
Not because everything is polished.
Because it isn’t.
That’s the point.
The Show is Emily Carr University’s annual graduating class exhibition, featuring work from over 400 graduating artists, designers, and creative thinkers across Fine Arts, Media Arts, and Design.
Physical installations. Digital media. Design work. Final projects. Years of experimentation and pressure turning into one huge public exhibition.
This is one of Vancouver’s largest art exhibitions, and it’s free.
I like shows like this because you get to see artists before the world has fully trained the risk out of them. Some work will be strange. Some will be messy. Some will be beautiful. Some will make you wonder what the hell you’re looking at.
Good.
That’s better than another safe gallery night where everyone quietly nods at expensive walls.

A few questions already sitting in my head

  • What piece actually had a point of view?
  • What felt alive, even if it wasn’t perfect?
  • What looked polished but empty?
  • What would you still remember a week later?
  • What kind of art does Vancouver seem to be producing right now?
  • Did anything make you feel something before you understood it?

How the afternoon will go
We’ll meet inside or near the main entrance / Libby Leshgold Gallery area, then walk through the exhibition together.
This is not a formal tour.
No art-world performance required.
We’ll look, react, wander, disagree, and probably split into smaller clusters as we move through the show.
Afterward, whoever wants can stay nearby for a quick coffee / snack and compare what actually stuck.
Tickets / cost
Free.
No ticket required from the details I have, but arrive on time so we can find each other before wandering into the exhibition.
