Movie discussion night - watch beforehand. No screening.

Short summary
Interstellar is easy to make fun of if you want to be clever.
The speeches.
The organ music.
The crying in space.
The bookshelf.
But that is also why the movie is worth a real room.
Because underneath the science-fiction machinery, Interstellar is not mainly about wormholes or black holes or whether the math checks out.
It is about parenthood, grief, survival, time, memory, and the awful fact that love can be the most irrational thing in a person’s life and still be the thing that tells the truth.
Cooper leaves Earth to save humanity.
But the emotional center of the movie is much smaller and much more brutal:
A father leaves his daughter.
A daughter waits.
Time does what time does.
That’s the part I want to talk about.
Not plot-summary sludge.
Not physics trivia.
Not everyone trying to prove they understood the tesseract.
A real film discussion about whether this movie earns its emotion, or whether it overwhelms us into accepting it.

• “Is Interstellar really about space - or about the guilt of leaving someone who needed you?”
• “Does Cooper make the right choice, or does the movie work very hard to protect him from the ugliness of that choice?”
• “Is love in this movie a serious force, or does the film ask too much of that idea?”
• “Did the Cooper and Murph relationship feel earned, or engineered to destroy you?”
• “Is Brand’s speech about love profound, embarrassing, or both?”
• “Does the movie treat science and myth as opposites, or does it secretly need both?”
• “What felt scarier: ecological collapse, deep space, time passing, or being forgotten?”
• “Does the bookshelf / tesseract ending work emotionally even if you resist it logically?”
• “Does Interstellar earn its tears, or does it bully you into them with music and scale?”

How the evening will go
We’ll start with one question:
“What scene hit harder than you expected?”
Then we’ll stay close to the film itself: Cooper, Murph, Brand, the leaving, the waiting, the time shifts, the sacrifice, the ending, and the strange mix of science and myth that makes the movie what it is.
We can talk about the big ideas, but I don’t want the night turning into a physics correction session.
Not trivia.
Not timeline policing.
Not film-bro monologues about Nolan being a genius or a fraud.
A real discussion.
Come having watched the movie recently enough to argue with your own memory of it.
