Elon Musk is almost impossible to discuss normally.
Some people treat him like a prophet.
Some people treat him like a cartoon villain.
Both versions are lazy.
This discussion is built around The Economist’s full-length interview with Elon Musk, which runs about 85 minutes and gives us a lot to work with: AI, power, politics, Starlink, Ukraine, China, Sam Altman, work becoming optional, Musk’s conflicts with other AI leaders, and the much bigger question underneath all of it:
Should one person have this much influence over the future?
That is the room I want.
Not fanboy worship.
Not dunking for two hours.
Not everyone arriving with their take already laminated.
A real discussion about technology, power, ego, accountability, AI risk, politics, and what happens when private individuals start operating at the scale of states.
A few questions already sitting in my head

• “Is Musk mostly a builder, a chaos agent, a political actor, or all three?”
• “If AI becomes smarter than humans within five years, who should be trusted to shape that transition?”
• “Can AI companies regulate themselves, or is that basically asking power to politely limit itself?”
• “Should one person have this much control over infrastructure, communication, satellites, companies, and public narratives?”
• “Does Musk’s political involvement make his technological power more dangerous, or just more visible?”
• “What do people misunderstand about Musk because they either love him or hate him too quickly?”
• “If work becomes optional, is that liberation, fantasy, or a problem we are not emotionally ready for?”
• “When does visionary ambition become too much power in one person’s hands?”

How the morning will go
Come having watched the interview beforehand.
We’ll start with one question:
“What is the strongest version of the case for taking Musk seriously - and the strongest version of the case for being worried?”
Then we’ll stay close to the interview: AI timelines, China, self-regulation, Musk’s conflicts with Sam Altman and other AI leaders, Starlink and Ukraine, USAID claims, Europe, the far right, Britain, racism accusations, and the question of what people misunderstand about him.
No screening at the event.
Not a tech conference.
Not a YouTube comment section with chairs.
Not everyone turning Musk into a personality test.
A sharp room, but a fair one.
