Video / podcast-style discussion - watch beforehand. Not a gaming event.

Short summary
AI apocalypse talk is usually too easy.
One side says the machine-god is coming.
The other side says everyone should calm down and learn spreadsheets.
Neither version is enough.
This discussion is built around Game Theory #24: The AI Apocalypse, a video about AI hype, oversimplification, machine learning, edge cases, incentives, institutions, government involvement, and the strange almost-religious language that keeps growing around AI.
That is the part I want to talk about.
Not “AI will save us.”
Not “AI will kill us all.”
Not everyone repeating the loudest version of the internet argument.
A real conversation about what AI can actually do, what institutions want it to do, where the apocalypse story helps, where it misleads, and who gains power when everyone is either dazzled or afraid.
The video gets into supervised machine learning, edge cases, engagement incentives, expansion, societal restructuring, government involvement including Operation Stargate, cult-like AI language, and the limits of claims that AI will become god-like.
Good.
That is much more interesting than another room full of people saying “exponential” like it explains everything.

A few questions already sitting in my head

  • “What can AI actually do right now, and what are people pretending it can do?”
  • “Does the apocalypse story clarify the danger, or make the wrong people more powerful?”
  • “Who benefits when AI is described as inevitable, god-like, or beyond ordinary politics?”
  • “Are edge cases a technical inconvenience, or the part where real human life breaks the model?”
  • “What do companies gain by keeping people excited, afraid, and dependent at the same time?”
  • “When does AI language start sounding less like engineering and more like a belief system?”
  • “What happens when governments stop asking whether AI should reshape society and start asking how fast they can help it happen?”
  • “Is the real danger superintelligence, or ordinary institutions using flawed systems at massive scale?”

How the afternoon will go
Come having watched the video beforehand.
We’ll start with one question:
“What part of the AI apocalypse story do you think is most useful - and what part is most misleading?”
Then we’ll stay close to the video: AI hype, supervised learning, edge cases, engagement incentives, expansion, government involvement, Operation Stargate, cult-like language, and the limits of god-like AI claims.
This is a video / podcast-style discussion.
Not a gaming event.
Not a tech conference.
Not a YouTube comment section with chairs.
A sharp room, but not a hysterical one.
