Whatever You're Currently Doing...Just STOP!

Details

Are you considering starting a new project, in the middle or even at the end of one? How did you think it would go? Did it go the way you thought? Did it result in the benefits you were expecting? No matter where you are in your project, there is a non-zero chance that what you have been doing, and how you have been doing it, may not be what is needed next. Before you go too far, attend this session and give yourself the opportunity to stop, think, and proceed slowly while challenging every assumption.

The objectives of this workshop style event are to:

  1. Face reality - look objectively at all aspects of your project
  2. Build a mental model for surviving and thriving in the changing landscape
  3. Learn a practical technique to accomplish this

In his more than 30 years as a developer, architect, VP and consultant, our speaker, Marius de Beer, has seen everything from well-planned and executed technical and business evolutions as well as dumpster fires that he’s been called in the put out – OK, it’s mostly been dumpster fires ;-)

He’ll provide some background and perspective on how software is currently envisioned, designed and built and some of the successes and failures (names withheld to protect the innocent) he’s seen. He’ll take us through some thought-provoking questions that you can use with your own teams as well as an exercise that you can take back to your teams and executives.

Bio:

Marius is a process improvement pragmatist. He has worked with individuals, teams, and organizations around the world, to find better ways of delivering on their promises. Marius' career has been a mix of external coach/consultant and full time employee, ranging from developer on a small team to senior executive of a large organization. This journey has provided him with first-hand experience in the rewards of successful change and the deep learning that results from abandoned initiatives. As a qualified mechanical engineer, technology has always been his passion, and helping others find joy in work, his motivation.
