Come join us for what promises to be an engaging conversation. Inspired by the June 25, 1949 publication of George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, this conversation invites adults 50+ to reflect on reinvention, authenticity, resilience, and the search for meaning during times of personal and social change. True these are ongoing themes of ours in all our Meetup groups but this evening will offer a distinctly “Orwellian” spin on things.
As we know, many people over 50 are navigating profound transitions: retirement questions, changing identities, shifting relationships, technological disruption, workplace uncertainty, caregiving responsibilities, ageism, and the desire to create a meaningful “next chapter.” Orwell’s remarkable book remains deeply relevant because it asks timeless human questions:
• How do we remain true to ourselves during periods of pressure and uncertainty?
• How do we preserve independent thinking in rapidly changing times?
• What fears hold us back from reinvention?
• What wisdom and freedom can come with age and experience?
• How do we create a life that feels authentic and meaningful?
Quotes from Orwell and other thinkers will be shared but no prior knowledge of Orwell or the book is required.
Please do join us. The ambiance promises to be warm and welcoming. If you choose to come for no other reason, know that Abdul, our host, will take good care of us and can sure make one mean cup of coffee!
