What we’re about

Join us for thought-provoking discussions at the Vancouver Philosophy Salon Meetup to dive deep into philosophical dialogue and friendly debate and engage in stimulating conversations. With a wide variety of topics touching on thinkers from Plato to Spinoza to Hannah Arendt to the Buddha and more, whether you're a seasoned philosopher or a curious beginner, all are welcome to participate in our vibrant and welcoming community of thinkers. Let's cultivate our minds and expand our perspectives together through the exploration of timeless philosophical ideas.

Participants are given a short text to study and discuss with a partner or small cohort and then a group wide guided discussion is led by Matthew Gindin, who writes the Philosophy As Therapy substack.

“Empty is that philosopher’s argument by which no human suffering is therapeutically treated. For just as there is no use in a medical art that does not cast out sicknesses of bodies, so too there is no use in philosophy, unless it casts out the suffering of the soul.”
-Epicurus (340-270 BCE, quoted by Martha Nussbaum in The Therapy of Desire)
