51st Gastown Grand Prix Cycling Event

On Wednesday, July 9th, elite cyclists from around the world will once again take to the historic cobblestone streets of Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood for the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix.

The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious and famous criterium bike races in North America.

Over the years, the international UCI-sanctioned race has attracted North America’s top professional and Olympic cyclists, along with over 20,000 spectators.

Start/Finish Line:
Cambie & Water Street

The women’s race (30 laps-48 km) starts at 6:15 and the men’s race (42 laps-60 km) starts at 7:30.

Team Alley:
Abbott Street between West Cordova Street & Water Street

What can I photograph: This is a really fun event! A great opportunity to do some street photography. It should be a beautiful evening with nice light. The highlight of the evening is the race, making this an excellent time to practice and capture motion photography. Check out this helpful link:

Where will we meet: Outside the Rogue restaurant, near the monument. This is a very popular event. There will be lots of people, making it difficult to stay together.

You may choose to find a spot and stay put to capture the races or you may choose to walk around the route and shoot from various locations. Personally, I love the corners. If you feel uncomfortable being by yourself, bring a friend.

How do I get there?
For transit info....www.translink.ca - For those driving, there are pay parking lots nearby. Many streets around Gastown are closed so access may be difficult.
