The New Power Query Custom Data Types in Excel

As mentioned at our October meet-up, we are moving to a new format where we will host 2 meet-ups each month. SESSION OUTLINE:
Celia Alves will be introducing us to the new custom data types now available in Power Query. In May 2020 at the Microsoft Business Applications Summit, Microsoft announced the new functionality in Power Query in Excel that allows the user to create custom data types for their data sets. These custom data types work similarly to the Geography and Stock data types in Excel. Recently, this feature became available to all the subscribers of the Insiders program. In this session, we will see how to create a custom data type in Power Query, use it in Excel, and explore examples of possible applications of this very new feature.
SPEAKER PROFILE:
Celia Alves is a certified MOS Expert in Excel and develops complex solutions combining Excel, VBA, Power Query, and Power Pivot to automate tasks, analyze data, and model business situations. She earned her Licentiate and Master’s degree, both in Mathematics and Education from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. She worked as a high school Mathematics teacher for two decades, up until 2013 when she moved to Canada. After re-skilling herself, Celia built a new career as an Excel consultant and trainer, ultimately founding her business Solve and Excel Consulting, serving companies in a wide variety of industries. Celia is also a speaker and the founder and leader of the MS Excel Toronto Meetup Group. In 2020, she received the Microsoft MVP award in Office Apps and Services for her contribution to the community.

REGISTRATION:
This meet-up will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, and will be recorded to share with others who were not able to attend live. You must RSVP for the event in order to access the Teams Meeting link.
JOINING THE EVENT:
Attendees can join the Teams Meeting starting at 5:45pm on the night of the event. The link will be visible only if you RSVP beforehand.
Once the event gets underway at 6:00pm PDT, we ask that attendees make sure they are on MUTE, so background noise and distractions are minimized.
During the presentation, attendees can type questions and comments into the chat area, which will be monitored by the event hosts. There will be time for Q&A at the end, where attendees can un-mute their mic and even share their video to ask questions.
