Getting Started with WebAssembly Using Spin and Rust
Abstract: Although WebAssembly was originally designed to enable high-performance applications in web browsers, it's started to gain traction in other contexts, such as multi-tenant cloud computing, database In this presentation, I'll demonstrate how to create and deploy a full stack Rust- and Wasm- based web app from scratch using Spin, Leptos, and Trunk.
Bio: Joel is an experienced software engineer with a background in real time communications, distributed systems, and compilers. He's been using Rust for the past five years in projects both big and small. He's currently a principal engineer at Fermyon, working on projects like WASI, the WebAssembly Component Model, and improved tooling support for various programming languages.

A kernel?! In a container? Explain yourself!
Abstract: This will be an overview of Kata Containers, an open source virtual machine that operates like a container. With careful planning & minute attention to detail, Kata developers have managed to begin to gracefully transition from GoLang to Rust without affecting the enterprise that runs their workloads on Kata Containers. This presentation is intended to introduce the audience to Kata with a quick overview before diving into WHY Kata's gone Rusty.

OpenInfra Summit
The OpenInfra Summit[1] is a global conference being held at the Vancouver Convention Centre from June 13-15 that gathers open source developers, cloud operators and IT decision makers from over 30 open source projects including Kata Containers, an open source project written in Rust. This event is hosted by the OpenInfra Foundation, a partner of the Rust Foundation[2].
This is a great opportunity to meet organizations that are hiring, get involved in an open source project, or learn the latest usage of Rust. Some of the world’s biggest brands will be presenting including Bloomberg, Red Hat, Samsung, CERN, Workday and more covering use cases like AI, edge computing, public, private & hybrid cloud and more!
There will be several talks about Kata Containers, including some of the recent Rust advancements made in recent releases.
If you are interested in going to the event, here is a discount code that can be used: YVR_MEETUP. This decreases the ticket to $499 USD. Additionally, students or individuals who work at a nonprofit organization can apply for a further discounted ticket[3]. Registration is open until May 26[4].

General Info
We usually study a specific topic. The meetup starts with a presentation and a discussion follows. After the presentation, we talk about Rust news. Finally, the remaining time is used for general questions, helping people out with their Rust projects, and feedback.
This is also a great place to share your experience with Rust or ask questions and get unstuck on your pet project.
Generally, anyone who is interested in Rust and being part of a community of Rustaceans in Vancouver is welcome :)
