Tech Happy Hour Holiday 'Giveaway'
Details
This year for our holiday meetup, we’re doing something fun, useful, and hopefully enjoyable. Bring your old, unused, or lightly-loved tech… and take home something new-to-you!
Got a Raspberry Pi collecting dust?
A keyboard you swore you’d fix but absolutely never will?
A pile of cables you’re emotionally attached to but objectively don’t need?
Perfect. Bring it.
This is NOT a white elephant exchange — no wrapping, no gag gifts, and no dead phones from 2007 (unless someone genuinely wants those and has a use for them). This is about giving away real, usable tech you no longer need — and letting someone else geek out over it.
How the giveaway works
1. You must bring an item to participate. If you don’t bring something, you’re still absolutely welcome to hang out — you just can’t take anything from the tech table unless it's a left over at the end.
2. Items should be useful, working, or at least fixable.
Examples:
✔️ keyboards, routers, SBCs, SSDs
✔️ monitors, peripherals, dev boards
✔️ spare components, cables, tools
✔️ projects you started but definitely abandoned
No trash, broken beyond repair, or devices with dubious stains
3. Label your item.
Just a simple sticky note:
- What it is
- If it works
- Any quirks (“needs new PSU,” “missing cable,” “runs Arch btw”)
Rules: I'm still coming up with the rules! But maybe we don't need rules. Will decide later
Why We’re Doing This
It’s fun
It’s useful
We all have too much gear
Someone else might actually want that thing you've been pretending you’ll repurpose. And it keeps good tech out of landfills. Plus, it’s a great icebreaker — nothing sparks conversation like, “Who brought this mysterious USB device labeled ‘???’?”
Come hang out, talk tech, swap gear, have a few drinks and celebrate the Holidays! Looking forward to seeing everyone!
